A PEACE OF MINE – 2018, A KaNikki Jakarta Memoir
What happens after you say, “I do”? In marriage, you share everything. The one thing that you have that belongs to you and you solely is peace. In her memoir, A PEACE OF MINE: How to be the Wife of an Epileptic, Honor Your Vows, and Honor Yourself, author KaNikki Jakarta shares a glimpse into her life of balancing the art of maintaining peace in marriage in sickness and in health. If you are planning to marry, you should know that the person you say “I do” to is not the same person that you are married to. Spouses change, and those who are wise know that if you are flexible then you are less likely to be bent out of shape. If you are already married, then you should reflect on the vows you took and remember that you promised these vows until death. Examining each vow, chapter-by- chapter, A PEACE OF MINE teaches the reader that it is imperative to be intent in the promise of your vows. Have you ever wondered why in marriage vows, all of the good vows, come first– with the exception of sickness? “To have and to hold, to love and to cherish, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health” the subtitle: How to be the wife of an Epileptic, Honor Your Vows and Honor Yourself is a read and tell about the challenges of becoming not only a wife, but also becoming a caregiver while honoring vows and yourself in the process. An educational document on Epilepsy, this book is a must read for those who plan to marry and those who are already married, this memoir takes you on a journey of true love of self and true love of spouse. Profound and poetic, you will laugh, you will cry, and you will obtain the answer to some of the whys. KaNikki Jakarta leaves no stone unturned in the story of marriage after “I do”. This may not be your typical “How-to book” but you want to know how this wife juggles it all. In the end, you will learn that your spouse does not belong to you. The only thing that is yours, solely, is peace. And a peace that is yours, is worth the journey.

THE INTRODUCTION OF KANIKKI J. – 2015, A KaNikki Jakarta Recording
This five track collection is a glimpse into the poetry that KaNikki has entitled “Real Life Fiction”. Now in her third decade of performance poetry, KaNikki has drawn inspiration from the nay-sayers and has grown wise enough to know not to define herself with another person’s definition. Her title track: Milk Drinking is a reflection of that epiphany. In track two of the collection, the poem entitled Fall Awake was inspired from her mother who told her often “Nothing comes to a sleeper, but a dream.” So, instead of falling asleep on your dreams, this track inspires its listeners to Fall Awake, into the reality that they’ve been dreaming. Track three is a story line and tear-jerker about a regretful mother, this track entitled The Color Blue unveils the skill of story-telling through poetry; and is also the title as-well-as inspiration for her 2nd novel. Track four is a snippet and shout out to her home state of Alabama. KaNikki gives a synopsis about herself through bars. Those from the south, will surely be able to relate. In the final track, entitled Sacread, KaNikki collaborates with Internationally known Spoken Word Recording Artist 13 of Nazareth in a poem about love and commitment. These two poets who have built a life together in friendship, love, and marriage are able to capture God’s love shared through one another in the honest emotions of sacred love. The track, featuring their friend, Poet/Host, Slim Williams who ties their verses together in song. This is truly a poem made for love.

THE OTHER SIDE OF PRETTY – 2014, A KaNikki Jakarta Novel
Meet THE COLOR BLUE’S favorite characters: Bobbie, Kyle, Jessica, & Nicole.
The fear of losing her epileptic daughter started years prior when Bobbie carelessly left her unattended in a shopping cart. Her paranoia turned reality when Amber was kidnapped.
On one hand, Kyle was truly trying to make his relationship work with his live-in girlfriend, Rasheida. But, her dark complexion and his insecurities about his dark complexion prevent him from letting his guard down and starting a family with her. On the other hand, he holds on to an unhealthy, unstable, relationship with Jessica who holds out hope that her lighter complexion, sexual acts, and cooking skills will finally make him choose her.
Who is Jessica Johnson? Is she a nice girl, or is she a murderer? She doesn’t have an answer to the question that chased her away from her job and former co-workers. She has been hiding in plain sight for years, but her past may be revealed in the darkness she hides inside.
Nicole is gay. No, Nicole is bi-sexual. No, Nicole is confused. In a relationship with her girlfriend Harmony, Nicole finally found the love of her life that she wanted to bring home to her mother, Anita. However, Anita doesn’t believe in gay.
The blues of Bobbie, Kyle, Jessica, and Nicole has composed a sad song of wrong doings that need to be corrected. Everyone knows that God don’t like ugly, so they’ll meet faith on the other side of pretty, and it ain’t cute.
